Dec 01, 2006 · Step one: figure out if it's the rear end or the cranks. As mentioned above, spin the rear wheel and cranks separately and see what the chain does, it will make itself fairly obvious. If it's the rear wheel then you'll have to replace something back there, probably a cassette cog or the freewheel. I've also seen a bent axle cause this.
